six hardcover Beauty Killer novels laid out in a row, with a heart-shaped box in the middle

Welcome!

This is the fan-made home of information on the "Beauty Killer" detective novels by Portland author Chelsea Cain.

The page you were probably on a minute ago is a recreation of an in-universe Gretchen Lowell fansite. The page you're on now is actual info about the real books. Click here to go back to the fun play-pretend page.

Here you can find information on the author, books, and characters, as well as links to other media and sites about the books.

If you've somehow arrived here without knowing what these books are about, well, take a look around and find out! But you should know a few things going in!

  1. This is a series of neo-noir novels about a detective who spent ten years chasing a serial killer, before the serial killer decided to seduce him, kidnap him, torture him, and then let him go and turn herself in. Now they're in love. Sort of.
  2. The series is ongoing. Unfortunately it has been on hiatus since 2013, but in the last few years the author has dropped a few tantalizing excerpts and hints about the next book. It's coming! Just. . . slowly.
  3. As you may have guessed, there are a few trigger warnings you might want to be aware of going into these books. The big ones are torture, murder, sexual assault, abusive relationships, and drug addiction. A little of everything!
  4. A few of the more fun highlights include: Local Portland atmosphere and trivia, random boa constrictor attacks, a masked mob ball, and weaponized blue-ringed octopuses.
"Whatever you think this is going to be like," she whispers, "it's going to be worse."
