“She’s dead,” Archie says. “Isn’t she?"
After a decade-long hiatus, the next book is in final edits! Chelsea Cain has been dropping snippets for years now, so we can say a few things about what will happen next.
It has been two years or so since Let Me Go. One snippet suggests that Archie has not been working with the police during this time, but has been living in an Air BnB on the beach, writing academic papers. But now, Henry has to call him back to work because it looks like Gretchen may be back.
People have been finding dolls with human organs stuffed inside them. Where the rest of the organs’ donor(s) are is unclear. Archie doesn’t think it’s Gretchen, because she’s never done anything like this before, but Henry points out that she likes to try new things. So they call in Susan to report on it, who has apparently spent the last two years finally actually getting therapy.
Complicating matters is that a different preview hints that Gretchen may have already died offscreen at this point -- but then, that just sounds like code for “fake her death,” right? Well, all we can do is wait and see. . . .
